Bhavani Deeksha 2026 dates at Sri Kanaka Durga Temple in Vijayawada

Bhavani Deeksha is an important ritual and fasting observed by women at the famous Vijayawada Sri Kanaka Durga Temple in the Karthika and Margashirsha Masam. Bhavani Deeksha 2026 dates are from November 19 to January 4, 2027. (All dates are tentative - please wait for temple to give the exact dates as sometimes sunrise in the place might result in the rituals being held a day later or earlier)

Bhavani Deeksha Viramana will be celebrated for 5 days from December 30, 2026  to January 3, 2027.

Mandala Deeksha starting from November 19, 2026 to January 3, 2027.

Artha Mandala Deeksha would be conferred from December 9 to 14.  

The devotees would have to relinquish their deeksha between December 30, 2026  to January 3, 2027. (Margashirsha Krishna Paksha Saptami To Ekadashi).

Kalasa Jyothi Uthsavam is from December 25, 2026.

Deeksha Viramana days from December 30, 2026  to January 3, 2027

Maha Poornahuti is on January 4, 2027 (Margashirsha Krishna Paksha Dwadashi.)                           

It begins on Kartik Shukla Paksha Dasami and ends on Margashirsha Krishna Paksha Dwadashi.

During the Bhavani Deeksha the utsava murti of the Goddess worshipped in the temple will be temporarily shifted to the Bhavani Mandapam. Nearly 1 million people will be partaking in the two month long ritual.

Those partaking in the ritual eat simple vegetarian food and lead a simple life.

Those undertaking the ritual wear red dress and take Irumudi to the temple while performing the ritual.

People take bath in the Krishna River and visit the temple to have darshan of Goddess.

Men and Women partake in the ritual.

Bhavani Deeksha is taken 41 days or 21 days. Women observe it for 21 days after or before the menstrual cycle.

Most devotees visit the temple to end the Deeksha. Some also visit before starting the deeksha and also while ending the Deeksha.
