Bachhabaras – Bacha Baras Vrat

Bachhabaras is a unique ritual observed in North India in the Bhadrapad Month. Bachhabaras 2026 date is September 8. It is observed on the 12th day during the Krishna Paksha of Bhadrapad month as per traditional calendar followed in North India. The ritual is observed for the wellbeing of children. The day is famous for preparing food made from millet (बाजरा). Cow (go mata) and calf are worshipped on the day.

For the ritual, a cow and calf are worshiped on the day. The cow is given ghee, rice, milk and other delicacies made from millet (बाजरा). The mother undertaking the vrat only eats food made from millet on the day.

In some region millets are given in charity to the poor.
