Karashtami - Khara Ashtami

Karashtami is observed on the Ashtami day (eighth day of waning phase of moon) during the Krishna Paksha of Ashwin month as per traditional Marathi calendar. Karashtami 2026 date is November 1. The corresponding period in North India is the Krishna Paksha of Kartik month.


On Karashtami day, people worship Bhaldevi and women of certain Hindu communities observe a fast. Karashtami ritual is more popular in Maharashtra.

For some Hindu communities in Maharashtra, Karashtami marks the beginning of Diwali festival. A special Kher is prepared on the day and it distributed as ‘Prasad.’
