How to arrange Raksha Bandhan Rakhi Thali or Puja Plate?

The Thali is a flat metal plate with low rim on which the items needed for traditional Hindu puja are arranged. The Rakhi Thali of Raksha Bandhan apart from the traditional pujas items contains the Rakhis or threads meant to tie on brothers. Here is a simple idea regarding what goes into a Rakshabandhan Rakhi Thali.

The Thali or metal plate used can be made of brass, silver or steel. It can be decorated with banana leaf or betel leaves. Avoid using paper and plastic as it might burn while lighting the diya.

The items need for the Rakhi Tali

  • Roli (Red kum kum) for applying Tika
  • Sandalwood paste
  • Betel leaves (optional)
  • Rice
  • Water
  • A Diya (lamp)
  • Incense stick stand
  • Flowers
  • Sweets
  • Rakhis

How to arrange Raksha Bandhan Rakhi Thali?

  • Get a Thali or metal plate. (If you feel the plate is not good looking you can use a banana leaf to cover the plate.) Today designer Raksha Bandhan Rakhi Thali are available in market so you can make use of it.
  • On the middle of the plate draw a Swastika or figure of Ganesha using red kum kum powder.
  • Use sandalwood paste to make designs on the plate.
  • If you have rose flowers, or any other petal flowers, use the petals to decorate the thali.
  • Next place Roli, sandalwood paste, rice, water, a diya and incense stick stand, flowers and a single sweet on the Thali. If available, you can use separate small vessel for each ingredient.
  • Arrange it properly and place the Rakhi thread away from the diya. (Sometimes while lighting the diya, the Rakhi thread might catch fire.)
  • Instead of sweets some people opt for dried fruit.
  • If you have Betel leaves available the above said items can be placed on a Betel leaves. (Arrange four or five betel leaves on the Thali).
