Kaisika Ekadasi at Srirangam

Kaisika Ekadasi at Srirangam Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple is observed during the Ekadasi falling during the shukla paksha, or waxing phase of moon, in Karthigai Masam. In 2024, Kaisika Ekadasi at Srirangam is on December 11.

On Kaisika Ekadasi day at Srirangam Temple, there is the special purappadu of Namperumal from the sanctum sanctorum to Sandanu mandapam in the morning. Special Thirumanjanam is performed here on the day.

In the evening, Namperumal is brought again from sanctum sanctorum to Arjuna mandapam where 365 cloths are adorned on him.

Another important event on the day is the recital of Kaisika Puranam.

It is believed that on this day, Bhagvan Vishnu proved to the world through Nampaduvan and a Brahma Rakshas that birth and caste are mere physical and what matters is devotion and adherence to truth. Kaisika is the name of a Ragam or Tune.
