In the epic of Ramayana, the war between Rama's forces and Ravana's demons was intense and filled with numerous tales of bravery and valor. One such tale is the story of the demon Bajradanstra, who was sent by Ravana to fight in the battle.
The Summoning of Bajradanstra
As the war raged on, many of Ravana's powerful demons were
being killed by Rama, Lakshmana, Hanuman, and the Vanara army. Concerned about
the continuous losses, Ravana summoned Bajradanstra, a fierce and mighty demon
known for his unparalleled strength and ferocity. Ravana entrusted him with the
mission of turning the tide of the battle. This demon had teeth like
thunderbolts and could eat up anything that came in front of him. He promised Ravana
that he will consume Rama, Lakshmana and the entire Vanara Army.
Preparing for Battle
Bajradanstra, eager to prove his might, armed himself with
the best weapons and went to seek Ravana’s blessings. Confident in his strength
and skill, he assured Ravana of his impending victory. Accompanied by a massive
army of elephants, he set out for the battlefield. However, as he traveled, he
encountered ominous signs. He saw blazing comets streaking across the sky and
noticed tears in the eyes of the horses drawing his chariot, all of which were
considered bad omens.
Ignoring the Omens
Despite these ill omens, Bajradanstra remained resolute. He
addressed his army, urging them to ignore the signs and focus on his strength
and valor, which would be on full display in the battle.
The Battle Begins
The battlefield soon became a chaotic scene with trees,
rocks, and arrows filling the sky. Bajradanstra charged into the fray, his
presence striking fear into the hearts of Rama's forces. Sugriva, noticing the
demon's devastating impact on his army, decided to confront Bajradanstra
himself.
Sugriva's Valor
With immense strength and agility, Sugriva leaped into
action. He hurled a massive rock at Bajradanstra, shattering his chariot into
pieces. Undeterred, Bajradanstra continued his assault, but Sugriva was
relentless. In a swift and powerful move, Sugriva uprooted a towering tree and,
with all his might, brought it crashing down onto Bajradanstra’s head.
The End of Bajradanstra
The impact was devastating. The mighty demon, who had
boasted of his invincibility, fell to the ground, his head smashed by Sugriva’s
blow. Bajradanstra, who had confidently ignored the omens, met his end at the
hands of the Vanara king.
The death of Bajradanstra was a significant blow to Ravana’s
forces. It demonstrated the extraordinary courage and strength of Sugriva and
further demoralized the demon army. This episode underscored the relentless
determination and valor of Rama's allies, who were prepared to face any
challenge to ensure the victory of righteousness in the epic battle of
Ramayana.
