About Tamil Margazhi Month - Margali Masam

The Tamil month Margazhi (December – January) is of great spiritual significance and the importance can be gauged from the fact that Lord Krishna in the Bhagavad Gita says “Among the twelve months, I am Margazhi.” This year, Margazhi begins December 16, 2017 and ends on January 13, 2018.
Rendering of the Tiruppavai of Andal is the most important event in the month. Tiruppavai consists of 30 verses and a verse is chanted on each day of Margazhi. Another major highlight in the month is the drawing of kolams (rangoli). The month is also noted for the numerous music concerts held by various organizations and communities.
The most important festival in the month is the Vaikunta Ekadasi. The month is also of great significance in the Srirangam SriRanganathaTemple. Apart from theVaikunta Ekadasi, the Srirangam temple during the month witnesses the Pagal pathu and rapathu – the chanting of Tiruvaimozhi.

A true teacher does good even to those who do him or her harm. Just like the sandalwood tree: if anyone cuts into the tree, even still, the tree gives forth its beautiful fragrance. The saintly being is always engaged in striving for the upliftment and welfare of everyone.
