I was surprised to find that ‘Hindu Bible’ is one of the popular searches in search engines on topic related to Hinduism. I guess by bible the searchers meant the holy book of Hinduism. Hindu religion has numerous Holy Scriptures like the Vedas, the Bhagavad Gita, the Upanishads, the Puranas, the Ramayana and the Mahabharata.
But which Holy Scripture will qualify as the Bible of Hinduism? Now, the choice would vary from people to people. For me it is the Bhagavad Gita because it contains the essence of all the important Hindu Scriptures.
Hindu Bible Verses
Hinduism doesn't have a single, authoritative scripture like
the Bible in Christianity. Instead, it has a vast collection of sacred texts
known as the Vedas, Upanishads, Bhagavad Gita, Ramayana, Mahabharata, and
Puranas, among others. These texts contain a plethora of verses and teachings
that are considered sacred by Hindus.
Here are a few verses from some of these texts:
From the Bhagavad Gita (2.47): "You have a right to
perform your prescribed duties, but you are not entitled to the fruits of your
actions."
From the Rig Veda (1.164.20): "Truth is one, though the
wise call it by many names."
From the Upanishads (Brihadaranyaka Upanishad 1.4.14):
"Lead me from the unreal to the real, from darkness to light, from death
to immortality."
From the Ramayana (Valmiki Ramayana, Ayodhya Kanda 2.47):
"When one person is enslaved, the whole society is enslaved."
From the Mahabharata (Bhishma Parva 5.58): "One should not injure, subjugate, enslave, torture, or kill any living being, including animals, insects, and plants."
