Garga Rishi Jayanti is the birth anniversary of Sage Garga, who was the Guru of the Yadavas. Garga Rishi Jayanti 2010 date is September 12. It is observed on the fifth day during the Shukla Paksha of Bhadrapad month as per traditional Hindu calendar. The day is also observed Rishi Panchami.
Garga Samhita which narrates the life of Sri Krishna is associated with the Sage.
It is believed that the Sage Garga performed the namakaran ceremony of Balram and Sri Krishna without the knowledge of Kamsa.
Bhadrapad Mahina is the sixth month in a traditional Marathi calendar followed in Maharashtra. Bhadra Month 2010 in Marathi calendar is from September 9 to October 7. Ganesh Chaturthi (September 11), the most important festival in a Marathi calendar, is held in this month. The Krishna Paksha period of the month is also highly auspicious and staunch Hindus perform Shradh and Tarpan for dead ancestors, parents and relatives during the Mahalya period (September 24 to October 7). Other important festivals and auspicious days include Hartalika Tritiya, Rishi Panchami, Jyeshta Gauri Puja and Anant Chaturdasi.

Bhadrapad Mahina 2010 Shukla Paksha (Waxing phase of moon) is from September 9 to September 23.
Bhadrapad Maas 2010 Krishna Paksha (Waning phase of moon) is from September 24, 2010 to October 7, 2010. This is the Mahalya Shradh period.

See it for the first time as a newborn child that has no name.In some Hindu cultures, Hindu God Ganesh is considered to be a bachelor. But there are some cultures in which he is a family man. Siddhi and Riddhi are the wives of Hindu God Ganesha. There is an interesting story which narrates how Ganesh Got Married.
As Ganesha had an elephant-head no girl was ready to marry him. While all other gods had a consort he did not have one and this angered Ganesha. He started creating problems in the marriages of Devas (demigods). He asked rats to dig up holes on the path through which wedding procession of any Deva would go to the bride’s house.
The Devas faced innumerable problems in their weddings. Fed up with the activities of Ganesha, the Devas complained to Brahma, who agreed to solve the problem.
To please Ganesha, Brahma created two beautiful women named Riddhi (wealth and prosperity) and Siddhi (intellectual and spiritual powers). Brahma gave them in marriage to Ganesha.
From that day onwards whoever pleases Ganesha also gets the blessings of Siddhi and Riddhi.
Ganesha had two sons in Riddhi and Siddhi – Shubha (Auspiciousness) and Labha (Profit).
Ganesha's daughter is Santoshi Mata (Goddess of Satisfaction).

In the Tamil Calendar, it is observed in the Puratassi month. In 2010, Uma Maheshvara Vratam as per Kannada calendar is on September 23.
A murti of Uma and Maheshwara (Shiva and Parvati) made of metal is worshipped on the day. The devotee observes a fast during the day and eats only after sunset on the day.
It is believed that the desires of the devotee will be fulfilled, if he observes the Uma Maheshwara Vratam.
Earlier, the Vrata was observed for 12 years on the full moon day in the Bhadrapad month. On the final year the metal murti of Uma and Maheshwara was donated to a Shiva temple.
Today as per Tamil calendar, Uma Maheshwara Vratam is observed in Puratassi month. The Vrata can be observed on the Ashtami (eight day during waxing phase of moon), or Chaturdasi (14th day during waxing phase of moon) or Ammavasi (no moon day) or Pournima (full moon day).
