Kavinisseri Koovaprath Kavu temple is located at Kavinisseri in Kannur district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Chamundi, Kurathi and numerous other deities. The annual theyyam thira kaliyattam festival is held once in two years for five days in Malayalam Dhanu Masam – Dhanu 10 to Dhanu 14 (December 25 to December 29).
Important theyyams that can be witnessed at Kavinisseri Koovaprathu Kavu temple are Illamkolam theyyam, Karan theyyam, Kurathi theyyam, Kundor Chamundi theyyam and Marakalathamma theyyam.
This is a small shrine with a chathura sreekovil for the
main deity. The roof of the shrine is traditionally decorated. There are other
smaller sreekovils and raised platforms for other deities. Sankranti in a
Malayalam month is of great importance.
