Azhikode Chemmarisseripara Parayangattu Kavu Temple – Theyyam Thira Kaliyattam Festival

Azhikode Chemmarisseripara Parayangattu Kavu temple is located at Puthiyapparambu near Azhikode in Kannur district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Vishnumoorthi, Chamundi, Bhairavan and several other deities. The annual theyyam thira kaliyattam festival is held for three days on the first Friday, Saturday and Sunday in March.

The important theyyams that can be witnessed at Azhikode Chemmarisseripara Parayangattu Kavu temple are Bhairavan theyyam, Gulikan theyyam, Rakteshwari theyyam, Uchitta theyyam, Vishnumoorthi theyyam, Kuttichathan theyyam, Pottan theyyam and Raktha Chamundi theyyam.

This is a small shrine with a square sanctum sanctorum (chathura sreekovil) for the main deities. The roof and walls are traditionally decorated. Other deities are worshipped in smaller chathura sreekovil. Some deities are worshiped atop raised square platforms. Certain deities are worshiped under trees. The roof and walls are traditionally decorated. Sankranti in every Malayalam month is of significance here.
