Very appreciate your post.

I am just a bit doubtful that is there any much difference between Ekadasi calendar in separate areas, e.g Vietnam and India???

Another thing, if I do have a vitally unavoidable test in 24 April (2010), then could you suggest me some way/ food to maintain my day?

Tons of thanks,

This is wonderful and very inspiring to start ekadashi fasts.

Anonymous said...

if you miss fasting on Ekadashi, what sacrifice one has to do, can we keep the fast next day...
Please answer this question????

Anonymous said...

What i do is i fast on the next day, if i miss and ekadasi fasting. As in most cases the ekadasi tithi only ends on the next day.

Anonymous said...

Very good.

Anonymous said...

some believe it is wrong to fast on the next day as the ekadasi fast is to be broken the next day; observe a major ekadasi (nirjala or vaikuntha ekadasi for example) that is equivalent to several ekadasi fasts and your sacrifice is taken account.

timings for starting and also breaking the fast is important; see http://www.vaisnavacalendar.info/ for local timings based on major cities/timezones

Last year Vaikuntha ekadashi & Mokshada ekadashi were on same date (17 Dec 2010) but this year they are on differnt dates why is it so? (Mokshada ekadshi in Dec 11& Vaikuntha ekadashi on 5th Jan 12)

Vaikunta Ekadasi is observed during the Shukla Paksha of Margazhi month. Mokshada Ekadasi is not dependent on Margazhi.

To all readers,

there seems to be many questions regarding the Ekadasi's times in different time zones. This is called Tiyties in Sanskrit.
Yes the sometimes depending on where you live you must observe the fast(Ekadasi)on a different day or more likely the starting and ending point is different by a few hours.
Also in Ekadasi there is a time it officially starts and ends. When the Ekadasi ends we must 'break' it by taking some grain prasadam(offered food to Lord Visnu). This is called Paran in Sanskrit. These are the details of Ekadasi Vrata.
If you want to follow Ekadasi strictly, in accordance to the Vaisnava Sastras then you must go to www.purebhakti.com and see for yourself what time the Ekadasi starts and stops in your country. There will be some variations based on your time zone. These differences are calculated by an expert Vaisnava astrologer.
That is www.purebhakti.com look up Ekadasi dates. This website is under the direction of His divine grace Bhaktivedanta Narayan Maharaj. The foremost of Vaisnava Acharyas. Thank you very much.

January 5, 2012 –Shattila Ekadashi –Satila Ekadasi -Vaikunta Ekadasi and again December 23, 2012 –Mokshada Ekadasi -Vaikunta Ekadasi, CAN YOU PLEASE CLARIFY WHEN IS VAIKUNTA EKADASI EXACTLY?

Lal said...

In 2012 there are two Vaikunta Ekadasi first is on January 5 and another is year end on December 23. This is very natural. Some years there are no Vaikunta Ekadasi. This all depends on when Shukla Paksha Ekadasi falls in Margazhi month.

vaikunta ekadasi is on 4th jan 2012.....it starts at early morning at 5.30,,,and it lasts till 5th morng 7.30... this is acording to our hindu panchangam timings,,,, but in d calender we get as 5th bcoz they alwaz consider d sunrise time and fix d date fr al d festivals,,,,, hence its given as 5th,,,,,but il celebrate it on 4th only,,coz d next day it lasts only fr sumtym,,,,,and in TIRUPATI TIRUMALA,,temple d vaikunta dwaram is opened on 3rd night n lasts on 4th night n wil b closed on 5th night,,,,, to conclude as 3 nights,,,,, d next day is mukkoti dwadashi

How to do the udyapan for ekadshi vrats?

Anonymous said...

I don't understand.... Because Ekadasi should be on the date of the apogee and the perigee of the moon... but if you compare the date of the Vaishnava calendar and a calendar of the date of apogee and perigee.... it is not the same...

For example, Ekadasi on August is on:
the 13th and the 27th.

Apogee/Perigee calendar on August is on :
the 10th and 23th.

Might you help me ?

Ekadasi is on the 13th
