Bakreswar Temple – Bakreswar Shakti Peetah near Suri in Birbhum – Bengal

Bakreswar is located 18 km southwest of Suri in Birbhum District in Bengal, India. It is one among the 51 Shaktipeetah temples. It is believed that the part between the eyebrows of Goddess Sati fell here. Mother goddess is worshipped here as Mahishamardini. Lord Shiva is worshipped as Bakranath.


The ancient shrine has been renovated. It now has the look of a typical Bengali style temple with a prominent conical shape dome.

The shrine and its vicinity are noted for numerous springs. Hot and cold springs are located close by. They are noted for its curative properties.

There are a total of eight hot springs here and they are known as Agni kund, Surya kund, Amrita Kund, Soubhagya Kund, Brahma Kund, Vairav Kund, Kheer Kund and Jibat Kund.
