Agni Teertham is an important holy place in Rameswaram. It
is located 100 meters from the east gopuram of the Rameswaram Temple.
Legend has it that Lord Agni, Hindu God of fire, took holy
dip in Teertham after he returned Mata Sita to Lord Ram. (Maya Sita – you can
read the story here).
It is believed that taking holy dip in the teertham will
help in sin redemption.
Hundreds of devotees take holy dip here daily.
During Thai Amavasi and Aadi Amavasi thousands of devotees
visit the Teertham to offer prayers to departed souls.
