Uniqueness of the Temple
Three forms of Goddess Shakti is worshipped in the Sanctum Sanctorum of the Sri Kathayi Amman Temple - Sri Kathayi Amman – also known as Kuzhandhai Amman as she is holding Muruga in her hip. Murti of Pachai Vazhi Amman with discus and conch is found to the left and there is also Murti of Poonkurathi Amman
The temple has a separate shrine dedicated to Shiva – who is worshiped in human form.
Pregnant women prayer here for the safety of child and mother. Couples pray for incident free labor period.
Shiva shrine is separate and faces south. He is offered prayers on Thursdays for excelling in studies. Shivratri and Monthly Pradosham days attract hundreds of people.
The temple has numerous guardian deities who are seen in the open on the outside of the temple. The Guardian deities found in the temple are Ladamuni, Karumuni, Muthumuni, Jadamuni, Semmuni, Veerama Muni and Vazhumuni.
The temple is open daily from 6:00 AM to 11:30 AM and from 4:30 PM to 8:30 PM.
Kattumannarkoil is located on the State Highway 227 and is around 30 km south east of Chidambaram.
