Here is a list of the animation films based on Hindu Mythology. Most of them never had a major
theatrical release.
The Prince of Light: The Legend of Ramayana directed by Yogo Sako and released in 1992 this was a Japanese production.
Pandavas - The Five Warriors was released in 2000 by Pentamedia Graphics Ltd and was the first 3D animated full length feature from
Hanuman released in 2005 was the first indigenous animation success story. This was a major theatrical success.
Ganesha released in 2005 in Hindi was directed by Santosh Kharade. Nothing is much heard about this animated Ganesha. In 2006, a second part was released.
Krishna – The Birth in Hindi was released in 2006. This also was a success.
Apart from this in the last couple of years there have been several DVD releases of animated short films based on Hindu Mythology.
No comments on the quality and content because with limited budget we cannot expect these Indian animated versions to compete with

hi....
i m interested to purchase all the animation films based on hindu mythology...
any idea, where can i order it?
I found some of these on Amazon.com and some others on eBay too! You may also try on DVD websites. All the best.
I request you to stop using the term "Mythology". When you say Hindu Mythology, it essentially means that you are referring to all our culture and stories of Gods as "MYTHS" and not real incidents. My humble request to use a better term like Hindu Civilization or Hindu Religious History.
anyone intrested in buying a animation film of hindu mythilogy
It is a truly great venture to make animation films on popular mythological stories. This is a very effective way to make children learn about rich Indian mythology...
There is one more in the market 'Dashavatar'. Its great animation and depicts all the avataars of Lord Vishnu.
First and foremost I really do not appreciate the fact that we call our Holy men and women "Myths". They are not "Myths" but were forms of Divine Manifestations who had bestowed the earth, LIVED and taught GOOD deeds to us. We have so many things to learn about them. We must stop calling them Mythological characters but must treat them as our forefathers. There is no wrong in making animated films and portraying various forms of God. But we must give them due importance and respect and let our Children know that they are SUPREME FIGURES with DIVINE POWER and that we must follow in their footsteps.
Thanks Abhilash for ebing so prompt...Well I would like to thank you for coming up with such a blog and ediucating young hindus about their way of life...well I am glad I am being able to grasp the goodness of this faith...
Also do let me know how can I write for this blog...well these are comments that I am posting...how could my writings feature in your blog...I have certain plans about promoting our faith and just by spreading the exact menaing of our faith...many people have misconceptions about our faith and many don't know what it is...
The use of the term mythology is of a constant debate we had given our point of view in this article - http://www.hindu-blog.com/2009/02/q-i-request-you-to-stop-using-term.html
Also I would like to tell you that I offered my prayers to Lord Vishnu, Lakshmi and Kubera...earlier I never used to value the importance of God in my life...we always had a seperate corner for God...but never used to bother to clean his place, light diyas for him...but now believe me ever since I have started lighting diyas, agarbatthis and dhoop, cleaning his place everyday, offering flowers to him...listeing to bhajans and shlokas...life has changed for good...I am a much more relaxed and a happy person now...GOD is great.

The first film, Ramayan - The Prince of Light is a top-notch production from the 1992 era. Hanuman 1 is also quite a cute film, I own both DVDs and have a huge collection of spiritual films in English, Kannada, Marathi, Bengali, Sanskrit and Telugu.
ISKCON has produced a new film on Lord Krishna which was released recently.
If you are interested in animated films on saints, check mediateck.biz which has some nice films on Purandara, Vadiraja, Kanakadasa and Raghavendra.

I had the 'Prince of Light: The Ramayana" at home for a couple of years without knowing that it was a DVD. Last weekend, I saw it for the first time. I was impressed with the quality (animation, drawings, plot line, English vocals. I have now watched it about four times already and am interested in trying out the other DVDs
Please also take a look at Pixar animator Sanjay Patel's books at http://gheehappy.com/.
Pixar made animated films like Toy Story, Up, Cars. Sanjay is an amazing artist who really stylizes the Hindu mythologies for the next generation.

You forgot RG Veda http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=465
Its based a Japanese translation of the Rig Veda.
Dear All,
Why you all call "Hindu Mythology".Mythology means collection of Myths..refer any dictionary.
Instead of Mythology say Epic.
Also do check out the movie .... Sita sings the blues ........ A real good animation movie
The best animation series on Hindu culture that is out there is LITTLE KRISHNA. It's a 3D animation series (12 parts so far) with excellent production values - amazing levels of detail, very high quality illustrations and lighting (comparable to some of the best in the world), high quality writing, voice over, music and overall direction! It's the best so far, and is produced by BIG Animation India. Just google Little Krishna to see what I'm talking about.
I agree with many people, the animation is always very poor... Indian film industry should spend more money on this field, because if not in India itself, I'm sure outside world would be interested in a GOOD animation. I am sure there ARE people who can make thousand times better than these. If you can make Enthiran (which was also not comparable with Hollywood movies, but better than most of it's kind in India), why not a Mahabharat, Shiv Puran, or Ramayan? I'd really like to see Shivji dancing or killing demons, or running from Bhasmasur... or just meditating peacefully with Parvati next to him... anything in a GOOD drawing... or even in a normal film, with good special effects... and good actors.
Anyway, I'd be interested to buy films about gods, if it's not a 4 years old's quality... any suggestions? I have Shiv Mahapuran... but most of the time it is just funny, how they forgot about the microphone hanging into the pic, or the big electricity towers standing in the valleys of mountains... and the effects... well... lovely. :)
dont use the term mythology.... that term was orginated from non beleivers of sanatana darma ... to confuse people around the world that sanatana darma is myth...... even though they know the truth..
i agree..."epic" is the right word instead of "mythology"...no other religion would call its great divine forefathers as myths...we hindus try to accept things without arguments or some of us are just trying to be COOL.
Loved the passion for our culture on this blog. For all Indians out there there's more reason to look forward to Diwali this year. The Ramayana comes live to you broadway style! An entertainment cum talent management agency has come up with the concept scheduled to go green on Oct 29th and 30th this year. Check out they're facebook page for more news, information about the play and how to get tickets to the first of its kind in India.

The above stories are not myth.Myth is something not happened. These stories are called "Epic".Please correct the title.

Hi I really like your blog. Hearty thanks for sharing the information on Hinduism, I would rather say educate us.
Here is one more. This is based on childhood of Lord Swaminarayan, I gave this to my friend as gift and his son doesn't watch anything else.

Agree with Ramayan being top of the list. I would also put Arjun right up there.
