Kalagni Rudra is a fierce manifestation of Shiva and it appears
at end of one cycle of creation. The entire creation is devoured by its fury.
Legend has it that Shiva had created Kalagni Rudra to guard
the Amarnath cave. He was going to impart the knowledge of his immortality to
Goddess Parvati. Shiva wanted no living being to hear the immortal tale.
Therefore, he asked Kalagni Rudra to annihilate all living
beings that resided near the Amaranth cave.
The belief is that Kalagni Rudra along with other fierce manifestations
of Shiva like Kalaraja, Mahakala, Kalabhairava, Kalapursha and Bhairav put an
end to creation, which is in the grip of Adharma, at the end of one cycle of
creation.
