Alakhnath Mandir – Shiva Temple at Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh

Alakhnath Mandir, located in Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh, is dedicated to Shiva. Alakhnath Shiva Temple is an important center of Anand Akhara of the Naga Sadhus. A unique aspect of this mandir is that it is never closed. The temple is always open. There are numerous small shrines in the huge compound of the temple.

The puja details of the main Shivling is a secret and is only revealed to an apt student who is a Naga Sanyasi. The main Shivling worshipped in the temple is located in a small trench. It is nearly 1 foot high.

The temple is routinely visited by Ash smeared Naga Sadhus. The temple complex also has numerous ash pits.

A major highlight of the temple is a huge 51-feet sindhoor colored Hanuman murti.

A very old Vat Vriksha is found in the temple complex with huge bells tied on it.

Naga Alikhiya Baba, also known as Alakh Giri, attained Samadhi here. The spot can be seen in the temple.

There is a pond in the temple with floating rocks brought from Rameshwaram in South India.

The temple has scenes like Vishnu in milky ocean and Shiva Vivah. There are also murtis of various gods in Hindu pantheon.
