I do not agree with one answer.That Hiranyakashipu got his powers from Lord Brahma.That is wrong.It is from Lord Shiva.He used to worship Shiva and he forced Prahlada to do the same.Its because he refused to obey that Hiranyakashipu developed animosity towards Prahalada.He was killed during twilight because Hiranya kashipus boon includes that he should not be killed neither during day nor during night,neither by a man nor by a beast,neither on ground nor in space,with no weapons existing in the world.Thats why a half man half beast incarnation was required to kill him.
