Bhagavad Gita Shlokas That Can Cure Diseases

What if someone tells you that Bhagavad Gita Shlokas have a curative effect on many diseases and ailments? You will be hesitant to believe it but still you will be interested to know more. Such an interest led me to the book titled “The Curative Powers OF The Holy Gita” written by Dr. T.R. Seshadri, which explores the healing powers of shlokas in the Bhagavad Gita.

The book ‘The Curative Powers OF The Holy Gita’ in Seshadri’s words is a quest for attaining integration – of the body, soul, mind and intellect – so as to achieve the knowledge of SELF for a define purpose.

What the book suggests is not a therapy but a sort of faith healing – a combination of shlokas from Bhagavad Gita along with Yoga and Meditation.

The book says that most of the modern day diseases are psychosomatic – caused by mind. Emotional disturbances like hatred, anger and fear destroy not only our peace of mind but our health as well. They are often caused by the over-or-under secretion of the endocrine glands which secrete chemical hormones into the blood stream, which affects body functions like growth, digestion and energy levels, etc.

Yoga and meditation are capable of relieving stress and strain and creating a relaxed mind. When a relaxed mind recites specific shlokas from Bhagavad Gita it can cure specific diseases.

The book details about 30 shlokas which have curative powers. It also mentions the method in which the shlokas have to be recited. To quote from the book “…advocate reciting/chanting the specific Mantras three times, once in the morning and once in the evening, and towards the close of Yogic practice….”

The shlokas are to be chanted in Sanskrit.

A few examples:
  • The one who is not depressed in adversity or disturbed by pleasure and pain, and is devoid of attachment, fear and anger – he is indeed a steadfast one. (Gita II – 56)
Chanting of this shloka is ideal for blood pressure (hypertension, hypotension), depression, impotency, neurosis, sexual disorders, stress, syphilis and venereal infections.
  • The turbulent senses forcibly lead astray the minds of even the wise. To control them, one should sit meditation on Me. He who has his senses under control, is steadfast in his wisdom. (Gita II – 61)
For AIDS, alcohol and drug addiction, blood pressure, brain disorders, depression, mental disorders, mind control, neurosis, psychic and psychosomatic illness, sexual disorders, stress, stroke and tension.
  • God is the goal, the sustainer, the witness, the abode, the refuge, the friend, the source, the destroyer, the supporter, the resting place and the imperishable seed. (Gita IX – 18)
For child birth, conception, delivery, gynecological disorders, menstrual problems and pregnancy.
Rendering of verses is surely not going to cure diseases but it can be a supplement to regular medical therapies. But surely the correct understanding of verses in the Bhagavad Gita can alleviate stress and strain, which is the root cause several modern day diseases.
