Adhika Masa in Bhadrapad in 2012 is the extra month added to calendars followed in North India, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.
Adhika Masa is from August 18, 2012 to September 16, 2012
The calendars followed in the above regions are lunar calendars. In other regions it is Solar calendars.
The lunar year consists of 354 solar days and solar year consists of 365 days.
So, as years pass by each lunar month starts earlier to the corresponding solar month. There is a difference of 11 days between the lunar and solar year.
In every two or three solar years the difference between the two calendars becomes a full month or around 29 days.
To compensate and get the two calendars similar an extra month is added to lunar calendars.
This extra month is dedicated to Sri Krishna.
There is no change festivals etc. It is observed on the same date in all regions.

Adhika maasa niyamaka is Purushothama (Krishna). This month is also called as Purushothama Maasa. All Daana,
Dharma, Uthsava, pooja, Worships, Pravachanas, etc performed during this Adhika masa period gives Adhika Phalam than performing in any of the corresponding moths or other months. Adhiksya adhikam phalam is the saying.
Do all good deed during this Adhika masa.
Well If you do bad deeds, then that also is adhika Paapam phalam.

There is no problem to the baby. The Adhik maas is a pure calendar adjustment of lunar calendar. There is no other significance to it for birth.
