Karveer Vrat – Karvir Vrata - Dedicated to Surya and Kaner Plant - How to Perform The Karveer Vrat?



Karveer Vrat is dedicated to Lord Surya and the Kaner Tree – Indian oleander or Nerium Indicum. Karveer Vrat 2018 date is June 14. The Vrata is observed on the first day of the Shukla Paksha or waxing phase of the moon of Jyeshta month (May – June) as per traditional calendar followed in North India.

How to Perform Surya Puja on Karveer Vrat?

It is believed that offering puja and rituals to Surya Bhagavan will help in alleviating the problems in life. It also ushers in peace and prosperity.

The fasting and rituals on the day were performed by Savitri, Saraswati, Sathyabhama, and Damayanti.

Offering flowers to Surya Bhagavan on the day is equal to offering gold coins.

The preferred flowers are Kadamb, Mukur and Bela during night. Other seasonal flowers can be offered during the day time. The preferred flowers are Guja, Dhatura, Aparajita, Bhatakttaya and Tagar.

The importance of Karvir Vrat is mentioned in the Bhavishya Purana. The rituals associated with the Vrat are mainly observed in North India.

Puja and Rituals Associated with Kaner Tree


Kaner Tree bark should be covered with red cloth and tied with blue color thread.

Then water should be offered.

Take seven different types of the grain and chant the following mantra:

ऊं आकृष्णेन रजसा वर्तमानो निवेशयन्नमृतं मत्र्यंच हिरण्येन सविता रथेना देवो याति भुवनानि पश्यन्।।

The grain then should be given to birds and animals.

The Kaner plant is used in Ayurvedic medicines. It is used to treat headaches, heart pain, piles, joint pain,

Kaner is known as Oleander in English.

Oleander flowers are of different colors like yellow, pink, white and lavender.
