Motakapalli Bala Bheemasena Temple - Story Origin & Historical Significance
Sri Balabheemsena Swamy Temple is believed to be a self-manifested
(Swayambhu) shrine that originated approximately 5,000 years ago at the
beginning of the Kali Yuga.
According to the Skanda Purana, many sages (Rishis and
Munis) worshipped here and attained liberation (moksha).
At the exact site where the deity manifested, King Lakshmanappa of the Kakalawara dynasty constructed a temple in the shape of a Vimana (temple tower structure). He appointed Brahmins of the Bharadwaja Gotra to perform the daily worship of the deity.
Since then, worship has been conducted according to:
- Dvaita Siddhanta philosophy
- Scriptural Tantric procedures
- The traditions of the Madhva Sampradaya
All rituals are performed in accordance with the customs of
the Uttaradi Mutt (Madhva tradition).
The present temple is believed to be over 600 years old,
constructed by the Kakulwar Deshmukhs.
