Sathya Sai Baba Teachings

A collection of teachings of Sri Sathya Sai Baba.

When you pile up riches, fear and anxiety are also piling up in proportion.

Character makes life immortal. It survives even death. Some say knowledge is power, but this is not true. Character is power.

Life is best spent in alleviating pain, assuaging distress, and promoting peace and joy. The service of man is more valuable than what you call “service to God.” God has no need of your service.

Death is not a deplorable event; it is the journey’s end, the owner getting out of the car when the time is up and the goal is reached. It is a consummation, a happy conclusion, or at least it ought to be, if only all are wise enough to treat it as such and be prepared for it.

All are the embodiments of Brahman. You should not belittle yourself, saying you are a mere human being based on the differences of names and forms.

To see diversity in unity is a sign of ignorance.

Not being able to understand the truth is also ignorance.

Knowledge and ignorance lies in the realization of truth.

Everything in this world is permeated with knowledge. Every individual, every society is endowed with knowledge. This knowledge is the very form of God. That is the truth. That is why it is said – Brahman is the embodiment of truth, wisdom and eternity.

Falsehood, injustice, indiscipline, cruelty, hate – these form the dirt.

Satya, Dharma, Shanti and Prema – these form the clean elements.

If you inhale the pure air of Satya, Dharma, Shanti and Prema your mind will be free from evil bacilli and you will be mentally sturdy and physically strong.

Whenever you are angry, sit quietly at some place and drink cold water. Chant the Divine Name. Then your anger will gradually subside. If your anger persists, go to a place of solitude and walk briskly for half a mile. Thus, there are many easy ways to control one’s anger…through prayer and contemplation on God, you should try to control the evil qualities in you.
