Rasta Peth Ayyappa Temple Pongala Festival in Pune

Rasta Peth Ayyappa Temple is located in the heart of Pune city in the Peth Area and is around 2 km from Pune Railway Station. The Pongala festival organized in Malayalam Kumbham month attracts scores of devotees. Rasta Peth Ayyappa Temple Pongala Festival 2017 date is March 11. The ritual is observed on the same day when the world famous Attukal Pongala is held in Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala.

Pongala ritual comprises of preparing ‘prasad’ for the deity outside the shrine. Women cook rice and jaggery in earthen pots and they offer it to the Goddess. They also cook different type of sweet dishes with rice powder and jaggery. Coconut tree fronds are used to cook the ‘prasad.’

The temple is decorated during the period with lights, lamp, plantain, coconut fronds, flowers etc.

Holy fire from the temple is taken out to start the fire for cooking Pongala.
