Vithura Chayam Subrahmanya Swamy Temple Pooyam Festival

Vithura Chayam Subrahmanya Swamy Temple is located at Chayam and is around 3 km from Vithura in Trivandrum District in Kerala. The annual pooyam ritual organized in the temple attracts hundreds of devotees. The shrine is dedicated to Subramanya or Muruga. Carrying Kavadi is the main ritual on the day. People carry various types of Kavadi to the temple in procession. Traditional temple music is part of the procession.

Kavadiyattam, display of colorful kavadis and fireworks are the highlight of the festival.

On the Pooyam day, people also pierce their body with small lance, or vel. This is done for getting desires fulfilled.
