Thazhakara Sree Subrahmanya Swami Temple Thaipooyam Festival

Thazhakara Sree Subrahmanya Swami Temple is located near Mavelikkara in Kerala. The annual pooyam ritual organized in at the Murugan Temple attracts hundreds of devotees. The shrine is dedicated to Subramanya or Muruga. Thazhakara Sree Subrahmanya Swami Temple Thaipooyam festival 2017 date is February 10.

Special pujas and rituals are held throughout the day in the temple.

In the morning there is Kavadi procession from Kunnam Sree Dharma Sasta temple. In the evening there is Bhasmakavadi procession from Puthiyakavu Devi Temple. Mayooraratham accompanies the procession.

Carrying Kavadi is the main ritual on the day. People carry various types of Kavadi to the temple in procession. Traditional temple music is part of the procession.

On the Pooyam day, people also pierce their body with small lance, or vel. This is done for getting desires fulfilled. 

Melam, Kavadiyattam, various types of colorful Kavadi and fireworks are part of the festival.
