Lalita Saptami Vrat observed for a Year

Lalita Saptami Vrat, also known as Kukkuti Vrata, is observed for a year starting from the saptami tithi during the Shukla Paksha of Bhadrapad month (seventh day during the waxing phase of moon in Bhadrapad month). Lalita Saptami Vrat 2018 begins on September 16.

The vrat is observed for one year on the seventh day in both the fortnights of every month. Sacred stories from Puranas are listened on the day. No food is taken during the day. Eight fruits are offered during puja. The fast is broken after evening puja.

Goddess Ambika and Lord Shiva are worshipped on the day. The person observing the vrata wears a thread band made of gold or silver with eight knots as token of his resolve on his arm throughout his life.

Food donation is performed to the poor when vrat is completed.
