Ekadashi October 2017 dates – Monthly Fasting for Hindu God Vishnu in October 2017



Ekadashi fasting, dedicated to Hindu God Vishnu, is observed on the eleventh day of a fortnight in a traditional Hindu lunar calendar. There are three Ekadasi in October 2017. The dates of Ekadasi in October 2017 are October 1, October 15 and October 31. The Ekadasi on October 31, 2017 is of great importance as it marks the end of the Chaturmasa Vrata, the Tulsi Vrata begins on the day, Pandarpur Kartik Ekadasi yatra is also observed on the day.

The Ekadashi on October 1, 2017 is known as Pasankusha Ekadasi. It is also known as Papankusha Ekadashi.

The Ekadasi on October 15, 2017 is known as Rama Ekadasi.

The Ekadashi on October 31, 2017 is known as Prabodini Ekadasi. It is also known as Kaisika Ekadasi

Pancuka in Orissa begins on October 31. Bhishma Panchak Vrat begins in South India on the day.

The Ekadasi on October 31 is the Kartik Ekadasi and it is also known as Dev Uthani Ekadashi.

Prabodini Ekadasi is also the last Ekadasi in a cycle of Ekadasi fasting.

Devutthi Agyaras is observed in Gujarat on October 31.

The famous Girnar Parikrama also begins on October 31 in Gujarat.

The preparation for Ekadashi fasting begins on the Dasami day – the day before Ekadasi. On the Ekadasi day, devotees observe complete fast. The day is meant for hearing religious discourses and performing pujas.

There are also devotees who do not observe total fast. They avoid grains especially rice and consume fruits, nuts and milk.

The fasting comes to an end on the Dwadashi day with the consuming of food cooked in one’s house.
