Mauna Panchami 2017 – Mouna Panchami Vrat and Puja in Shravan Month



Mauna Panchami, or Mouna Panchami, is observed on the fifth day during the Krishna Paksha (waning phase of moon) in the month of Shravan (July – August). Mauna Panchami 2017 date is July 27. Mouna Panchami is associated with the worship of Snake God in some regions. Mauna Panchami is of great importance at the Deoghar Shiva Temple – Baba Baidyanath Dham. It is observed during the famous Shravani Mela.

Khir and Ghorjaur are offered to the snake gods on the day. Dry vegetables and fruits like mangoes and jack fruit are also offered to the Snake Gods or Nagas.

Some people also chew neem leaves along with lemon, mango seed and pomegranate on the day. This is believed to help in removing poison from the body.

Mauna, or Moun, means silence. In Santana Dharma, silence is given great importance. It is considered an essential quality of a seeker of Truth.

Sawan or Shravan is one of the holiest months in a traditional Hindu calendar followed in North India. Numerous observances and rituals are held in the month.
