Purnima in June 2010 – Full Moon Day or Jyeshta Poornima

Purnima, or Poornima, is the full moon day in a traditional Hindu calendar. The Purnima in June 2010 is the Jyeshta Purnima in most regions. In Tamil culture it is the Aani Purnima. In 2010, the date of Purnima in June month is June 26. Vat Savitri Purnima Vrat is observed on the day in western parts of India but this is on June 25. There is a Chandra Grahan or Partial Lunar Eclipse on the day but it is not visible in most parts of India and there is no need to follow any rituals

The Purnima begins at 04:13 PM on June 25 and ends at evening 04:59 PM on June 26.

In 2010, Sant Kabir Jayanti is observed on the day. The day is also observed as Snana Purnima at the Jagannath Temple in Puri and in other places in Orissa.

Some Hindu communities observe fast on Purnima day. Special pujas and rituals are performed in many temples.

Snana Purnima or Snan Yatra is held on the day at the Puri Jagannath Temple.

The day is also the last day in the Jyeshta month in the traditional Hindu calendar followed in North India.
