Tirupati Balaji Temple to Remain Closed due to Suryagrahanam on January 26

The hill shrine of Lord Venkateswara at Tirumala Tirupati would remain closed on January 26 due to Suryagrahanam. The temple will be closed from 0600 hrs to 1800 hrs. The Surya Grahanam on January 26, 2009 is a partial solar eclipse. All Sevas in the Srivari Temple including Suprabhatam, Thomala, Archana, Archana Anantara Darshan will not be performed. January 26, the Republic Day of India, is a public holiday and the plans of many devotees would go awry due to this solar event.

The temple will open only after the purification rituals are performed inside the sanctum sanctorum to rid the evil effects of eclipse. This will be performed from 1630 hrs to 1800 hrs.
