Bangalore Ganesh Utsava 2008

The 46th Bengaluru Ganesh Utsava will begin on September 3, 2008 and will be formally inaugurated on September 5 by Sri Sri Ravishankar. Ganesh Utsava in Bangalore is noted for its festive spirit and for the live music concerts by India’s most popular performers. From a humble beginning in 1962, the Bengaluru Ganesh Utsava has gained wide popularity and is one of the much awaited annual events in Bangalore. In 2008, Ganesh Chaturthi festival begins on September 3. In Karnataka, the celebrations begin on September 2 with Gowri Habba or Gowri Ganesha Puja.

A mélange of classical and popular music, with a dash of humor, mimicry and dance-drama, has been scheduled for this year's edition of the Ganesh Utsava.

Ace dancers and musicians, including Hariharan, Balamurali Krishna, Shobhana, Kumaresh-Ganesh , playback singers Rajesh Krishnan and Pallavi Arun, percussionist Sivamani and mandolin U Rajesh will enthrall Bangaloreans.

The schedule also includes a jugalbandi by Pandit Shivkumar Sharma and Rahul Sharma.

S M Nandish, managing trustee, Sree Vidyaranya Yuvaka Sangha - organizers of the event - said special flower decorations, cultural programs and a series of poojas are planned.

Idols of Lord Ganesha will be immersed after the Sathyanarayana pooja on September 14.

Blood donation drives and free health camps will also be held.
