Magh Mela Allahabad

Magh Mela is held annually on the banks of Sangam in Allahabad (Prayag) and the Mela is also known as the mini Kumbh Mela. It is held in the Hindu month of Magh. In 2018, Magh Mela begins with Makar Sankranti (January 2, 2018) and ends on Maha Shivratri (February 13, 2018). The Magh Mela is not confined to the Magh month and the important bathing dates are spread over a period of 45 days.

During Magh Mela a temporary tent city arises on the banks of Sangam in Allahabad. Various Hindu religious organizations and ashrams erect separate camps. Kalpavasis live in these camps during the period. Important bathing dates during the period attract more than a million devotees.

Important bathing dates during Magh Mela 2018 are Paush Poornima, Makar Sankranti, Mauni Amavasya, Vasant Panchmi, Magh Poornima and Mahashivratri.

Magh Mela is not held when Kumbh Mela and Ardh Kumbh Mela takes place.
