What is Ardh Kumbh mela?

Kumbh Mela or Kumbh Fair is a sacred holy pilgrimage that takes in four important locations in India. The pilgrimage takes place once in twelve years in Allahabad, Nasik, Ujjain and Haridwar. Ardh Kumbh Mela or Half-Kumbh Mela takes place in these four locations during the sixth year of the twelve year cycle. The legend of Kumbh Mela can be traced back to the Puranas.

Each location – Allahabad, Nasik, Ujjain and Haridwar – will have an Ardh Kumbh Mela once in 12 years.
