Lord Balaji’s celestial wedding in Mumbai

Preparation for the celestial wedding of Lord Balaji and Goddess Padmavati in Mumbai is moving smoothly. The South Indian Education Society (SIES), Matunga, in association with the Tirupati Tirumala Devasthanam will be organizing the celestial wedding on December 2 and 3, 2006 at Mumbai. It will be held at the MMRDA Grounds, Bandra Kurla Complex.

A replica of the Tirupati temple is being constructed at the MMRDA Grounds, Bandra. The parts of the temple replica are from Coimbatore. The idols of Lord Balaji and Padmavati will reach by road along with 70 priests.

The 90,000 square meter ground at the Bandra Kurla Complex has the capacity to seat around 400,000 devotees. The celestial wedding will also be relayed live by ZEE TV. Big screens have been installed at crucial spots to relay the wedding.

Around 500,000 laddoos will be distributed as ‘prasad’ and it is being made at the venue.

The two-day event is open to all. Flower and coconut offerings are not permitted inside the complex. The celestial wedding will be conducted on both days between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. On Sunday, from 11 am to 4 pm, devotees will be allowed darshan from a distance. (via)
