Mumbadevi – About Goddess Mumbadevi

Goddess Mumbadevi is a manifestation of Mother Goddess Shakti and is the guardian deity of Mumbai area. Scholars are of the view that Goddess Mumbai Devi is Goddess Amba – Maha Amba became Mumbai. – Aai means mother in Marathi. Mumbadevi is the patron deity of fishermen and salt collectors of the area. The most famous temple dedicated to Mumbadevi is located at the Bhuleshwar area of Mumbai – north end of Zaveri Bazaar. The original temple was relocated a couple of times. The murti of Mumbadevi is is depicted as sitting atop a Lion. The murti of Goddess is draped in Sari and she wears an ornamental head gear. On the side of Her there is a murti of Goddess Annapurna sitting on a peacock. Story of Vidyujjihva – Husband of Surpanakha in the Ramayana

Vidyujjihva was the husband of Surpanakha, sister of demon king Ravana. He was the brother of Kalakeyas and he fought several battles along with Ravana. Vidyujjihva had a son named Shambhu Kumara in Shoorpanakha. Once aided by Vidyut Jihva, Ravana defeated Indra, the king of Devas. While he was returning from heaven, Ravana was blocked by Kalakeyas. Ravana defeated and killed the kalakeyas. This enraged Vidyut Jihva, who encountered Ravana. In the battle Ravana had to kill Vidyujjihva. To console Shoorpanakha, Ravana gave her permission to find a suitable husband and if any one turns down her proposal he promised to forcibly conduct the marriage.  There is another story regarding the death of Vidyut Jihva. It is stated that Ravana accidentally killed Vidyujjihva during the battle against Indra. Note – There is another character named Vidyut Jihva in Ramayana. He was a sorcerer and attendant of Ravana. Shani Dev Wife Mantra - Chanting of Names of Wife of Shani to Get His Blessings

Numerous mantras can be chanted to get the blessings of Shani Dev. The most famous among them is Shani Dev Wife Mantra. It is a shloka containing the different names of the wife of Shani Dev. The belief is that chanting the mantra will help in calming the bad effects of Shani. The mantra is: ध्वजिनी धामिनी चैव कंकाली कलहप्रिया। कंटकी कलही चाऽथ तुरंगी महिषी अजा। शनेर्नामानि पत्नीनामेतानि संजयपन् पुमान्। दुखानि नाशयेन्नित्यं सौभाग्यमेधते सुखम्।। The wife of Shani gets pleased after chanting the mantra. As a result, Shani is pacified and he takes away all the troubles of the devotee. The mantra can be chanted on all days.
