Mumbadevi – About Goddess Mumbadevi

Goddess Mumbadevi is a manifestation of Mother Goddess Shakti and is the guardian deity of Mumbai area. Scholars are of the view that Goddess Mumbai Devi is Goddess Amba – Maha Amba became Mumbai. – Aai meanst mother in Marathi.
Mumbadevi is the patron deity of fishermen and salt collectors of the area.
The most famous temple dedicated to Mumbadevi is located at the Bhuleshwar area of Mumbai – north end of Zaveri Bazaar. The original temple was relocated a couple of times.
The murti of Mumbadevi is is depicted as sitting atop a Lion. The murti of Goddess is draped in Sari and she wears an ornamental head gear. On the side of Her there is a murti of Goddess Annapurna sitting on a peacock.
Legend has it that the present day area of Mumbai was terrorized by a demon named Mumbaraka – he had got the boon of invincibility from Brahma. Human beings were killed and eaten by the demon.

Story of Vidyujjihva – Husband of Shoorpanakha in the Ramayana

Vidyujjihva was the husband of Shoorpanakha, sister of demon king Ravana. He was the brother of Kalakeyas and he fought several battles along with Ravana. Vidyujjihva had a son named Sambhukumara in Shoorpanakha.
Once aided by Vidyujjihva, Ravana defeated Indra, the king of Devas. While he was returning from heaven, Ravana was blocked by Kalakeyas. Ravan defeated and killed the kalakeyas.
This enraged Vidyujjihva, who encountered Ravana. In the battle Ravana had to kill Vidyujjihva.
To console Shoorpanakha, Ravana gave her permission to find a suitable husband and if any one turns down her proposal he promised to forcibly conduct the marriage. 
There is another story regarding the death of Vidyujjihva. It is stated that Ravana accidentally killed Vidyujjihva during the battle against Indra.
Note – There is another character named Vidyujjihva in Ramayana. He was a sorcerer and attendant of Ravana. He was deputed to make a head of Sri Ram and show it to Mata Sita at Ashoka Vana.

Shani Dev Wife Mantra - Chanting of Names of Wife of Shani to Get His Blessings

Numerous mantras can be chanted to get the blessings of Shani Dev. The most famous among them is Shani Dev Wife Mantra. It is a shloka containing the different names of the wife of Shani Dev. The belief is that chanting the mantra will help in calming the bad effects of Shani.

The mantra is: ध्वजिनीधामिनीचैवकंकालीकलहप्रिया।
कंटकीकलहीचाऽथतुरंगी
महिषीअजा।
शनेर्नामानिपत्नीनामेतानि
संजयपन्पुमान्।
दुखानिनाशयेन्नित्यंसौभाग्यमेधतेसुखम्।।

The wife of Shani gets pleased after chanting the mantra. As a result, Shani is pacified and he takes away all the troubles of the devotee.
The mantra can be chanted on all days.

Mindfulness is channelizing mental energy to overcome all forms of negativity

Mindfulness is making ideal use of the present by analyzing things and looking at them from a wider perspective with a calm mind. The goal of mindfulness should be to realize that there is no difference between you and me. All differences are superficial.

Mindfulness is also freedom with compassion. From this freedom, arise positivity and creativity. For progress in all spheres of life, we need freedom with compassion, positivity and creativity.

The purpose of life is not happiness from an external source. Purpose of life is bliss, which is to be achieved through proper understanding that all form of happiness that we get from external source is like the dewdrop, which disappears quickly.

Difficult situation in life is the result of ignorance. Desire, attachment, greed, anger, jealousy, ego, hatred…etc are some of the common forms of ignorance.

Mindfulness makes us aware of our ignorance and weaknesses.
