Janai Malai Devi – Information about Mother Goddess Janai Malai Devi

Janai Malai Devi is a form of Mother Goddess Shakti worshipped in Goa and Maharashtra especially in Satara District. She is Grama Devata or village deity. She is also the patron Goddess of many communities. There is no proper authentic information regarding her origin but she is a deity who protects people from evil forces. Janai Malai Devi is worshipped in murti form. She is depicted either in standing or sitting position. Sometimes devotees only get to view her head. She is depicted with two or four arms. She holds various weapons. Festivals associated with her vary from region to region. Numerous different types of rituals are dedicated to her. In some regions there is a palkhi dedicated to her. She is worshipped for early cure from diseases, for good rains and farm yield, for defeating enemies and for fulfillment of desires.

Kandariya Mahadeva Temple in Madhya Pradesh – Khajuraho Kandariya Mahadev

Kandariya Mahadeva Temple is the largest and loftiest temples among the shrines at Khajuraho in Madhya Pradesh. This Shiva temple, built during the 10th century, measures 30.5 meters in length and 20 meters in width excluding the platform. Facing the east, the temple consists of porch, hall, large hall, oriel windows, vestibule and sanctum enclosed by ambulatory. The shrine is famous for its sculptures they depict an animated array of gods and goddesses, couples, heavenly damsels, mythical animals and serpents. The lofty base of the temple has numerous and elegantly ornamented moldings, which include two rows of processional friezes teeming with elephants and horses, warriors and hunters, acrobats and musicians, dancers and devotees and erotic sculptures.
