Sri Ramanuja Jayanti 2017 date - Ramanujacharya Jayanti 2017

Sri Ramanujacharya Jayanti, or Ramanuja Jayanthi, celebrates the birth anniversary of Ramanujacharya, the famous South Indian philosopher who advocated that bhakti or devotional worship of Lord Vishnu in any form is the ideal method to attain salvation or moksha. In 2017, the date of Sri Ramanujacharya Jayanti is May 1 as per North Indian calendars. Please note that some communities will be observing the Jayanti on April 29 (especially in Tamil Nadu).  Moving away from the Advaita principles, Ramanuja amalgamated philosophy of Upanishads, Brahma Sutras and gave bhakti tradition a strong intellectual basis.

It is believed that Sri Ramanuja was born in 1017 at Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu and left his body and merged with the Supreme Soul in 1137 in Srirangam. The three major philosophical works of Ramanuja, who is also referred as Ilaiya Perumal in Tamil, are the Vedartha Samgraha (commentary on the Vedas), the Sri Bhasya (commentary on the Brahmasutras) and the Bhagavad Gita Bhasya.

The Six Enemies of Humans

The six enemies of humans are:

Anger Greed Attachment Lust Pride Malice

These enemies make man forget his true self. It converts man to do evil acts. It makes man a slave of his senses.

These are our real enemies and we need to use all our resources to fight them. They have to be overpowered and imprisoned and never released. They should be shut forever.

Purification of mind happens when they are defeated.

Happiness, which is our true nature, returns.
We also see the path of self realization.
