Changa Sree Bhadra Kali Temple is located at Vellanad in Thiruvananthapuram District in Kerala. The annual utsavam or Kuthiyottam Festival begins on Revathi nakhatram in Malayalam Kumbham month. Changa Sree BhadraKali Temple Kuthiyottam festival 2017 beginning date is March 1.
The festival begins with the hoisting of Kodimaram. Kappu ketti Bhadrakalipattu – songs in praise of Goddess Bhadrakali is sung during the 10 days. Thirumudi of Goddess is brought out of the shrine for worship and rituals.
On the ninth day of the festival, urul, pongala, paranettu and nilathil pooru are held in the temple premises.
Anndandam, special pujas and rituals, offerings, processions, thalappoli and other rituals are part of the festivities.
Traditional performing arts, music and dance are staged during the period.
Caparisoned elephants, melam, fireworks and sheevali are part of the festival.
The temple is traditionally decorated with plantain, coconut leaves, flowers, leaves, traditional lamps and lights.
