Thiruvambadi Sri Krishna Temple is located in the heart of Thrissur town in Kerala. Utsavam or the annual temple festival here is held from Pooyam Nakshatram in Malayalam Kumbham month. The festival attracts scores of devotees. Thiruvambadi Sri Krishna Temple annual festival 2016 beginning date is February 20. The festival ends with arattu on February 27.
The eight day festival is noted for numerous unique rituals and pujas.
Traditional performing arts, music and dance are part of the festivities. Caparisoned elephants, melam and fireworks are the main highlights.
The most important days during the festival are the final two days - Pallivetta and Arattu. The utsava murti of Bhagavan Sri Krishna is taken atop caparisoned elephants on the two days.
Hundreds of people visit the shrine during the period and taking blessing of the deities.
The festivities end with arattu on the final day.
