Sthavareshwar Mahadev is counted among the 84 Shiva Temples in Ujjain and it is the 50th temple visited during the parikarama of Shiavalayas here.

Story of Sthavareshwar Mahadev
Samja wife of Surya, the sun god, could not bear the heat of her husband. To escape from the heat, she deputed another woman who looked like her in her place. Surya thought her to be his wife and they had a son. This was Shani. He created troubles for all living beings including Devas.

To find a solution, Devas approached Shiva.

Shiva summoned Shani and told him that he should not just go around creating trouble for people instead he should also bring them prosperity and happiness. Shiva told him to stay in different Rashi and bring different results.

Shiva then asked Shani to go to Mahakal forest and worship a Shivling located west of Prithukeshwar. As Shani worshipped here, the Shivling came to be known as Sthavareshwar Mahadev.

Those who offer prayers will be able to remove the veil of ignorance and attain bliss. He will get material comforts and will not be troubled by Navgrahas.
