Puthiyavila Vadakkan Koyikkal Temple is located at Puthiyavila near Kayamkulam in Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Mother Goddess who is worshipped as Devi or Bhagavathy. The annual festival or utsavam in the temple is observed in Malayalam Kumbham month. The most important rituals and festivities are held on the Bharani Nakshatram day in the month. Puthiyavila Vadakkan Koyikkal Devi Temple Kumbha Bharani Festival beginning date is March 4 and Kumbha Bharani is on March 13.
The main highlight of the 10-day festival is the Kettukazhcha on the 9th and 10th day.
The temple is traditionally decorated with plantain, coconut leaves, flowers, leaves, traditional lamps and lights.
Melam, caparisoned elephants, fireworks are part of the festivities. Traditional performing arts, music and dance are staged during the period.
Various unique offerings are made at the shrine during the period.
The festival ends with Arattu. The utsava murti of the deity is taken out of the shrine for ritual bathing on the final day. Caparisoned elephants and melam are part of the ritual.
