Muvattupuzha Sri Kumara Bhajana Devasvam Temple Annual Festival



Sri Kumara Bhajana Devasvam Temple is located atop a hill at Muvattupuzha in Kerala. The highlight of the festival is procession with colorful kavadis and caparisoned elephants. The main festival is observed on Pooyam nakshatra in Kumbham month. Muvattupuzha Sri Kumara Bhajana Devasvam Temple annual festival beginning date is February 13. The Pooyam festival date is February 20.

Melam, traditional Kerala temple music with five instruments, are performed as part of the festival. Traditional performing arts, music and dance are staged during the period.

The temple is traditionally decorated with plantain, coconut leaves, flowers, leaves, traditional lamps and lights.

The festival ends with Arattu. The utsava murti of the deity is taken out of the shrine for ritual bathing on the final day. Caparisoned elephants and melam are part of the ritual.

Various unique offerings are made at the shrine during the period.

Traditional performing arts, music and dance are staged during the period.
