Elanad Thendankavu Temple is located near Chelakkara in Thrissur District. The shrine is located around 2 km from Chelakkara. The annual Vela festival in the shrine is observed in Kumbham month. Elanad Thendankavu Temple Vela festival 2016 date is February 11.
Melam, traditional Kerala temple music with five instruments, is performed as part of the Vela. It attracts thousands of melam enthusiasts. Panchari Melam, Pachavadhyam, Theyyams, Velakkali and other folk dances are performed during the period.
Caparisoned elephants are another attraction of the festival.
Vela is the celebration in certain temples in Thrissur and Palakkad District of Kerala after harvest season.
The utsava murti, or Thidambu, is taken atop a caparisoned elephant during the evening puja to the accompaniment of traditional temple music.
