Vijayadashami in Kerala

Vijaya Dashami is observed on the day after the nine-day Navratri festival. It is last day of the Dasara festival. Vijayadashami in Kerala in 2017 is on September 30. Ninth Day of Navratri Dedicated to Goddess Siddhidatri form of Durga on October 10, 2016

The ninth and last day of Navratri festival is dedicated to Goddess Siddhidatri form of Durga. She is worshipped on October 10, 2016 during Chaitra Navratri. The day is also observed as Ayudha Puja and Saraswathi Puja in many regions of India. Mahanavami is also observed on the ninth day. In Siddhidayini or Siddhidatri form, Goddess Durga showers knowledge which makes each soul realize Brahman. Atharvan - Priest during Vedic Times

Atharvan is an important priest mentioned during the Vedic times – perhaps head of family of priests. He is mentioned in the Rig Veda and the Atharva Veda. It is believed that Atharvan first created Agni by rubbing. The Agni produced by Atharvan is the messenger of Vivasvat.
Atharvan first established the order of yajnas or sacrifices. Indra helped him in establishing the order of yajnas.
As per Atharva Veda, he is a companion of the Devas. He first gave soma to Indra.
A wish fulfilling cow was gifted to Atharvan by Varuna.
The term Atharvan is also used as a generic term for priests.
The term Atharvans is also used to refer to pitris who live in the heaven. They destroy goblins with a magica herb.
Bhishaj Atharvana is one of the traditional composers of the Atharva Veda. The prefix Bhishaj refers to a man with knowledge of medicine and healing. It must be noted here that Atharva Veda was once known as Atharvana Veda.

Mahanisha Puja

Mahanisha Puja is an important ritual dedicated to Goddess Shakti and is performed during the Navratri and Durga Puja period. The ritual is also performed during the Kali Puja. Mahanisha Puja 2017 date is September 28. The Mahanisha Puja begins when the Ashtami Tithi during the Durga Puja period begins. This ritual is of great importance in Shakti Temples and attracts thousands of devotees.

Some temples do not allow darshan of Goddess Shakti (Durga) during the Mahanisha Puja period. The darshan takes place only after the puja – which is followed by an Aarati. The ferocious form of Goddess is invoked during the period.

The darshan of Mother Goddess after Mahanisha Puja is considered highly auspicious and meritorious.

Please note that the timing of Mahanisha Puja is from the end of Saptami Tithi (Seventh day during the waxing phase of moon of Ashwin month) and the beginning of Ashtami Tithi (eighth day during the waxing phase of moon of Ashwin month).

Madhvacharya Jayanti 2017 Date

Madhvacharya Jayanti is observed as the birthday of Saint Madhvacharya, the great religious reformer and commentator on the Brahma Sutras and the Upanishads. Madhvacharya Jayanti 2017 date is September 30. Sri Madhvacharya is the exponent of the DwaitaSchool of philosophy also known as Sad Vaishnavism – Vishnu or Narayana is the Supreme Being. Karak Chaturthi

Karak Chaturthi is observed on the fourth day after the full moon in the month of Kartik (October – November) as per traditional Hindu calendar followed in North India.
