Story of Ravana Lifting Kailash Parvat – Why Ravana Lifted Mount Kailash?

Kailash Pravat is the abode of Lord Shiva. There is story in Hindu Puranas, which narrates Ravana attempting to lift Mount Kailash.

Ravana was arrogant and proud of his physical strength. He wanted to show off his powers. To impress Shiva, he once attempted to lift the Kailash Mountain. Shiva to quell the arrogance of Ravana simply placed his toe on the mountain. Ravana’s forearm was crushed in the attempt and he let out a huge cry. As he let out a huge scream, he got the name Ravana – one who screams.

Ravana used all his strength but could not remove his hands from under the Holy Mountain.

To remove his fingers and escape from the pain and impending death, Ravana sang the Shiva Tandava Stotram.
Pleased with the Stotram, Shiva saved Ravana and blessed him with the Chandrahas, a powerful weapon.

Thoughts on Navaratri Festival

During the nine nights of Navaratri, Devi is worshipped in all Her names and forms each of which has a special significance. We remember a sandalwood tree by the memory of its perfume. Each name and form of the Devi refers to a specific quality or attribute of the Divine. By remembering the form or by chanting the many names of Devi, we enliven those qualities in our consciousness and they manifest in us according to the need.

The Divine Mother Devi is the womb of all Creation. She is the seed of all dynamism, radiance, beauty, equanimity, peace and nourishment. She is the life force energy.

The Divine Mother has unconditional and infinite love for Her children, that is, every being in entire Creation.

Life exists in many dimensions.
Any attraction that you create is a trap.
One who is on the spiritual path is not aiming to enter into these spaces – pleasantness or unpleasantness. He wants to drop the whole structure.
When you drop your body, you are disembodied.
For someone who is seeking liberation, I want you to understand, what you are seeking is self annihilation.
