Brahmeshwar Mahadev in Ujjain – Story of Brahmeshwar Form of Shiva - One of the 84 Mahadev Temples in Ujjain

Brahmeshwar Mahadev is one of the manifestations of Shiva. Information about this form of Shiva is found in the Skanda Purana. Brahmeshwar Mahadev Shivling is worshipped at Khatiwada in Ujjain .  Lord Brahma worshipped this Shivling to defeat Demon Puloma. Hence the name Brahmeshwar Mahadev. Information about Brahmeshwar Mahadev is rare and what little we know is found in the Skanda Purana. Brahmeshwar Mahadev is one of the 84 Mahadev temples in  Ujjain  and it is the 65th temple visited during the parikarama of Shiavalayas here. What is Darsha Amavasya?

Darsha Amavasya, or Darsh Amavasya, is the no moon night in a traditional Hindu lunar calendar. Darsha Amavasya is present when the moon is completely absent. In other terms Amavasya tithi should be present after sunset and during moonrise to be counted as Darsha. For example if June 17 is Amavasya and if the time is 4:00 PM on June 16 to 3:30 PM on June 17. Then Darsha Amavasya is on June 16 even though the actual Amavasya date is June 17. Darsha Amavasya is chosen by some communities to perform Shradh. Darsha means no moon night.

Kiratarjuniya – Story of Kirata – Shiva as Hunter – and Arjuna

Kiratarjuniya is a very famous story in the Mahabharata. The two main characters in the story are Kirata (Shiva) and Arjuna. During the exile of Pandavas in the Mahabharata, Sage Vyasa advises the Pandavas to use the exile period to propitiate Gods and become more powerful. Arjuna decided to propitiate Indra for this purpose; he went to the Indrakila Hill and subjected himself to severe austerities. Indra appeared before Arjuna and asked him to propitiate Shiva as only Mahadev can bless a warrior with different powerful weapons.
