Who is the father of Sri Krishna?

Many people have confusion as to who is the father of Sri Krishna. This is because his real parents did not look after him during his childhood.

Vasudeva is the father of Sri Krishna but Kamsa had imprisoned him. The night He was born, his father transported little Krishna to Braj.

Nanda, or Nandagopar, is the foster father of Sri Krishna. He looked after the young Sri Krishna while his parents were in the prison of Kamsa.

Karna Using Nagastra at Arjuna in the Mahabharata War

During the Kurukshetra war in the Mahabharata, Karna aims the dangerous Nagastra at Arjuna. If the arrow were to hit Arjuna, then death is certain.

Karna aims the Nagastra at the head of Arjuna and releases it. However, Bhagavan Sri Krishna, who is Arjuna’s charioteer, presses the chariot down with His toe, and the chariot goes down a few inches. The arrow misses its target and knocks off Arjuna’s headgear. Thus, Krishna’s timely interference saves Arjuna’s life.
As per some versions of the Mahabharat, when Krishna presses down the chariot, the vehicle gets stuck in the mud. Sri Krishna gets down from his chariot and goes down on His knees, puts His shoulder to the wheel, and lifts up the chariot. As per these versions, Karna aims arrows at Sri Krishna but nothing happens.

Goddess Lakshmi Murti (idol) worshiped at the Kolhapur Mahalakshmi Temple is centuries old. The murti is carved in black stone and is embellished with gold. She wears numerous types of gold ornaments.

The murti worshiped in the temple is maintained by the theological department.

The murti is 3.5 feet in height.

The murti was given a special coating – Vajralep in August 2015.  Before this, the special coating was done in 1955. The special coating is required as the ancient murti is getting damaged due to the Panchamrit abhishek performed daily. Due to this now, the abhishek ritual is performed only once a day.

Some devotees thought that applying special coating on the murti was against the custom of the temple. They had filed a petition in the court. It was decided in favor of those supporting special coating. Thus it was performed after several years in August 2015.

If you are hungry, eat your anger and egoism – Swami Sivananda

To be good is to be godly.
If you are hungry, eat your anger and egoism.
If you become angry, be angry with your anger itself.
Courage is the first virtue. Compassion is the best virtue. Love is the highest virtue. Truth is that virtue by possessing which all virtues will cling to you.
Do no live to die but die to live.
To be wise before an action is wisdom; to be wise in the course of an action is cautiousness but to be wise after an action is folly.
Swami Sivananda
