Sri Krishna teaches Narada - What is Maya?

A legend tells how once Sage Narada said to Krishna, “Lord, show me Maya.” A few days passed, and Krishna asked Narada to make a trip with Him toward a forest. After walking several miles, Krishna said, “Narada, I am thirsty; can you fetch some water for Me?” “I will go at once, and get you water.” So Narada went.
At a little distance there was a village. He entered the village in search of water and knocked at a door, which was opened by a beautiful young girl. At the sight of her, Narada immediately forgot that Krishna was waiting for water.
He forgot everything and began to talk with the girl. Gradually that talk ripened into love. He asked the father for his daughter, and they were married and lived there and had children. Thus twelve years passed. His father-in-law died; he inherited his property.
Then came a flood. The river rose until it overflowed its banks and flooded the whole village. Houses fell, people and animals were swept away and drowned, and everything was floating…

Sri Krishna Janmashtami Quotes

As the tiger devours other animals, so does the tiger of intense love and zeal for the Lord eat up lust, anger and other passions. The devotion of the gopis is the devotion of love, constant, unmixed and unflinching. – Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa
Krishna, who gives delight to all and who is blissful in his own being, divided himself into as many Krishnas as there were gopis and danced and played with them. Each girl felt the divine presence and divine love of Sri Krishna. Each felt herself the most blessed. Each one’s love for Krishna was so absorbing that she felt herself one with Krishna, nay knew herself to be Krishna. And wherever their eyes fell they saw only Krishna.  – Swami Prabhavananda
The divine play of the gopis is the acme of the religion of love, in which individuality vanishes and there is communion. It is in this lila that Sri Krishna shows what he teaches, ‘Give up everything for me.’ Take shelter under Brindavan lila to understand Bhakti. – Swami Vivekananda

Sri Krishna is Our Friend – Janmashtami Thoughts and Quotes by Hindu Blog

There is an unnecessary fear and seriousness attached to god, Bhakti, spirituality. The ever-smiling Sri Krishna wanted to show us that depression, crying, brooding, inflicting pain etc in the name of God and religion is ignorance. One of the aim of the Avatar of Sri Krishna was to remove this unwanted fear and seriousness with matters associated with God. Krishna is a friend who is inside and around us. His relationship with Gopis and Gopas in Vrindavan, Kuchela, Arjuna, Radha, Rukmini, Sathyabaha, Draupadi are examples which clearly illustrate this point.

Sri Krishna wanted to show us that God is not someone who sits in the skies with a remote control – giving happiness to few; unhappiness to few; suffering to certain folks; heaven to believers.
Krishna is in us; he is all around us. What this does is that it instills confidence in us to face the challenges in life. With a friend like Sri Krishna to support and guide what is there to fear in this universe.

Dadi Janki Teachings on Trust

Trust is essential if you want to help people. There are two aspects to trust – your own trust in others and their trust in you.
People will naturally start trusting you when they see you overcoming problems in a reliable and constant way.
However, a more powerful and long-term way of gaining people’s trust is to give them the experience of your trust in them.
This is an art which can be cultivated as follows: never listen to gossip and never foster it yourself; form neither judgments nor opinions; rather, be spiritual and clean in your feelings. Learn to develop good wishes for others. This will be the ultimate measure for your ability to trust.
